 About Unofficial Knots
These unofficial knots and awards were created or used by local Councils to recognize
their membership in areas consistent with National programs. Scouters should avoid
wearing unofficial knots unless after consultation with the local Council Scout
Executive, permission has been obtained for wearing the knot. Otherwise such knots
are to be regarded as suitable for a patch blanket or collection, but not uniform
wear. Your Council Scout Executive does have authority (See the Insignia Guide)
to authorize local insignia that advance the programs of Boy Scouts of America,
provided that such insignia is consistent with the programs of BSA.
